About Funky Voices Choir

sandra_portrait

Sandra Colston (BA hons) Musical Director,  has been a vocal and piano tutor for over 12 years, and has conducted, directed and formed many and varied choirs for all ages.  She has had vast experience within many music fields and is highly qualified (BA Hons Music).

Sandra founded and launched “Funky Voices” in 2007 to meet the community who sought a choir in the area that sing modern music that can be enjoyed by everyone, NO AUDITION and NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED.  Joining Funky Voices helps you to gain confidence on both a personal level aswell as when singing and performing.  Whether you are a member of Funky Voices or a member of the audience you will experience a fantastic feel-good factor and be buzzing all the way home.

Sandra has always had a passion for vocal harmonies with personal influences being likes of; Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind and Fire, Luther Vandross, Brian McKnight. The aim is to bring a similar vocal energy to Funky Voices.

Funky Voices is not a ‘conventional’ choir due to the age range being open to ages 16 to 80 who come from all walks of life, and the repertoire we sing, including “Take That”, “Michael Jackson”, “Madonna”, making it an exciting and enjoyable experience for everyone. We meet up weekly and although most members are not trained singers, together they make a wonderful sound and are full of energy (and laughter) .

The Director arranges the music herself, to suit the choir members, and to bring the music up to date and possible for a choir to sing.  We aim to meet the community and their needs and have also raised alot of money for charities in the area and will continue to do so.
